“I created a flag from the sport’s dignity. I oversee the name of my family with affection, steady nerves and blood.” -Hélio Gracie, co-founder of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

If you are reading this today, 12 November, you are reading the first blog post on my new website on the day of its creation. I spent all day creating, configuring and migrating files from my previous blog to this new one. I am at a place where I am happy with it and I am actually incredibly proud of how it looks.

I am using Jekyll to generate a flat file website, hosted on GitHub Pages as I do with the majority of my websites. I believe that is a simple but incredibly powerful tool for websites without much fuss. I chose to maintain the same color green as my primary website that you might be aware of but I decided to use a dark theme for this blog because that is what I prefer. I like the dark/night themes for anything that I am going to be reading and as this is a blog, it would only make sense to keep it dark for a nicer reading experience. I don’t know if I could implement an option between light and dark themes, but if it is possible, I would have to wait until the future to try and implement it.

One of my favorite things about Software Development is the ability to create. I can use Photoshop, Adobe Premier Pro, After Effects, etc to create things and while that is something that can be beautiful and enjoyed widely by many people around the world, I find so much more satisfaction in programming something, coding it and creating it from scratch. Usually, if you use photoshop, you are modifying an already existing photo. With Premier Pro/After Effects, you are editing/modifying something that someone else has already filmed and simply adding your own flair, but it is not 100% your own creation.

I love that I have faith in my abilities now to be able to come up with an idea, imagine how I want to use it, then after some hard work see it realized. Even if it is as simple as a python script that adds a line to a database when an action is triggered or as complex as a multi-user web-based application enabling information sharing that is used to complete a specific but important task, it makes me incredibly proud to see that final product being used and working as I imagined in my head.

This website is something I am proud of, and I hope that I am able to continue contributing interesting and informative posts to it that is appreciated by many people. Even if it isn’t appreciated widely by tons of people, I just appreciate the fact that anyone be it close friends or random strangers would come across the blog and read my random and sometimes crazy thoughts. So just a quick thank you.

If you are one of those people, which you are because you are reading this, leave a comment or reply to my tweet of this post which is linked below and let me know what you think about the new website and share any issues you might have with it! Anything would be greatly appreciated.
