About the author:

Matt Maginniss is a Software Developer living in Monza, Italy. After graduating from University with a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science I moved from the United States to Germany, I lived for a short time in France, then back in the US and now I am living in Italy. Where will I go next? Who knows, literally I don’t even know yet but I am going somewhere.

Since moving to Europe, I have been to plenty of countries, including the UK, France, Finland, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Portugal and more. At each place I have been able to enjoy the culture, food, language, activities and often football matches.

Football(soccer) and ice hockey are by far my two favorite sports. My favorite football club is AFC Wimbledon in the 3rd Division in England and the New York Islanders are my favorite Ice Hockey team. Since I have been living in Germany, I have adopted FC Union Berlin as my German football club of choice and the Berlin Eisbaren are my German eishockey club. Honestly, both the Berlin sides are more of a casual support, but I think it is nice to have semi-local clubs to enjoy/support.

I am learning German and Italian, it is not easy. German is easier than Italian but I am putting in as much effort as possible to becoming expertly proficient in reading, writing, and speaking them.

About the blog:

The blog’s title, “Not Everything but Something”, refers to my favorite quote of all time,

I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do. -Edward Everett Hale, American Author

I don’t even remember the first time I read this quote, but I do know that the second I was aware of it, it connected something within my head. It is a fantastic mentality to approach things in life. Living like that, focusing on doing whatever I can do is something that will help make my own life, as well as the lives of people around me better.
